my 6th week as an intern

This week was one of the busiest weeks of my internship so far. In total, I worked 40.5 hours, which made it a long but very educational week. Because it was such a busy period, I had the opportunity to gain a lot of experience and become more confident in my role at the front and back office.

Monday was especially busy because of the large number of check-ins. Throughout the day, many guests arrived at the park, which meant there was a constant flow of people at the reception desk. I spent a lot of time helping guests, answering questions, and making sure everyone received the information they needed for their stay. Although it was hectic at times, I enjoyed being part of the team and helping to ensure that guests had a good start to their holiday.

Not every situation this week was easy, however. On Saturday, I had an unpleasant experience with a guest. The guest had a lung condition and had rented a bicycle. He became upset because he had to walk to the bicycle storage area to collect it. He told me, “Ik vind het heel vervelend dat ik helemaal daarheen moet lopen.” I responded politely by saying, “Dat begrijp ik helemaal.” I wanted to show empathy and let him know that I understood his frustration.

Unfortunately, the guest became even more upset. He started raising his voice and told me that I could not possibly understand because I do not have a lung condition myself. Although I understood that he was frustrated by the situation, I felt that his reaction was disrespectful. I remained calm and professional throughout the conversation and tried not to take his comments personally.

Fortunately, my colleague Jolanda stepped in and supported me during the interaction. She stood up for me and helped explain the situation to the guest. Her support made me feel much more confident and showed me how important teamwork is when dealing with challenging situations. It was reassuring to know that my colleagues had my back.

Overall, this week taught me a lot about working under pressure, staying professional during difficult conversations, and relying on my colleagues when faced with challenging situations. Even though it was a long week, it helped me grow both personally and professionally.
